Relationship

Never blog for months already. This is a plaform where I can share my life and also for me to review what God has done in my life through the different seasons and ups and downs.

Recently thinking more about what relationship is all about. Why God created marriage and why must two become one. What was God's original intent of relationship.

I have thought of these before. However, these questions were surfaced in the midst of siutations and circumstances. Indeed a relationship needs to put in hard work (everything in life we also need to put in hard work), we also get emotionally entangled and vulnerable, we experienced heartaches we never experience before, disappointments when people fail us and we see the most hidden sides of our own true self with people who are closest to us. Many times, i wonder if relationship is worth the hard work and the many downs and emotional roller coaster that each has to go through.

But the bible does say that two is better than one and God does not want man to be alone and so he created for adam, eve. God describes His relationship with the church as one that is of a bride and the groom. Beautiful as it sounds but in reality it is hard work and sin probably robbed many couples of the true joy, hope and intent of a covenanted relationship. People are offen driven by their own selfish intent, needs and desires, bringing hurt to one another and people around them.

But despite what is mentioned above? Why does God still describe the church as the beautiful bride and Jesus coming down to claim the bride that is glorious and unblemished.

"25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing[b] her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself." (eph 5: 25-28)

I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.(rev 21:2)

I have always found these verses interesting and would often wonder why the relationship between Jesus and the Church/us is described/linked to a marriage.

To me I see it as a covenanted relationship that has similarities to the covenant that God has with us. Despite our weaknesses and sins, God is always faithful and He never leave or forsake us. Just as how God wants a marriage to be that is of no divorce but of commitment, grace, love and forgiveness. Each is a really big word and has multiples of meaning to it.

Whether in relationship or not, marriage or not, it is another phase of life we go through and through different seasons God has different plans for us and different journeys for us. Purpose is to purify us, prune us to be more and more Chris-like. I am reminded of the lyrics of this song:

Lord prepare me to be a sanctuary
Pure and Holy, tried and true
With thanksgiving i will be a sancutary for you.
(Yes indeed, it is my prayer too)
