Introduction:
Waiting my hair to dry, so decided to take some time to blog :) I just finished running 3km with a few brothers and yingjie. So long never run le and my legs are aching now.... I ran about 3km!!! Breakthru manz.... hahah :) It was a good and nice experience...
While running a few thoughts came to my mind, our journey with God is like running a marathon and running a race. (I am not a runner by nature, in fact i hate running... haha... but these were some of my thoughts while running)
Reflections:
1) Each and everyone of us are RESPONSIBLE of making this run. The decision whether to run and even the speed at which we run is our own responsibility. Each of us are responsible for our own run. This is just like our journey with run, we decide whether we want to take the step to walk with God and the decision whether we want to run this race or slack by walking or stand still and not do anything.
2) Running needs TRAINING! We can never go for a marathon without going first training for it and preparing our body for a marathon. Just like our life, we need to take small steps to follow God and to train ourselves in holiness. Transformation does not come overnight, it takes discipline to build our life around God's truth, to train our mind and to grow to be Christ-like.
3) Going uphill is crazy and much more effort is needed!! To ensure that we don't die halfway while going uphill, it is important for us to pace our speed and to persevere. While running, i met many uphills and i was like this is crazy!! I'm so tired already. Have you ever felt like that? How can i reach the top of the mountain? It is just too tough, too steep and too difficult and Lord, i'm tired. Many times i felt this way and today i definitely felt tired. We want breakthroughs in life and we want victories and blessing from God and mountain-top experience. These things are like going uphill. They may be difficult and seem hard, but as we persevere and continue to trust in God, we will reach the mountain top and we will know that we have not press on in vain.
4) The next thing is about pacing... I am a person who likes to sprint and i hate long distance running. I used to be quite a fast sprinter and i love speed :) haha... but when it comes to perseverance... i totally suck at it. This is also reflected in the my life and also the way i run. When i feel tired or when i start to be breathless, i will give up and start to walk. It takes alot for me to continue and run and to persevere. But God has has really tested me in this aspect and grew me in this aspect. Because perseverance is an important character trait and in this journey with God, we need to ve perseverance so that we may grow in our character and mature in our faith and that we will grow to be people with strong convictions and values. Some of us start off in a race too fast, only to die off at the end. It is important to pace ourselves in our relationship with God too. In all things it is important that our convictions, values and understandings and faith match up to our actions and the things we do in our life. It is really easy for people to mask their inner being with outward deeds and service, thinking that their inner man is at peace with God. Unlike man, God does not look at the outward appearance but at the heart and God being the God of peace came to restore this in our inner being.
Conclusion:
"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run is such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore i do not run like a man running aimlessly; i do not fight like a man beating the air. No, i beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize." (1 cor 9:24-27)
Why am i in this race:
1) God's love is greater than anything and I am fully convinced of this. I will never trade God's love for anything.
2) Live for a greater purpose and cause
3) To be who I am created to be
4) To discover God's will for me and to live it out (God created me and He has the best plan for me)
