it has been quite some time since i last blogged :)Met up with si jia recently, had a good time catching up with her and also sharing our lives. I was sharing to her about some of my passions and some of the things that i hope to do. Through the sharing think she rekindled some of the thoughts and passion that i had but didn't really follow through them and was sort of tossed aside. Thinking that i would deal think about them after i graduate, when i start working or when God reveals a vision to me.
i always thought that in order to know God's plan for me, it would be through a very clear vision and he will probably reveal to me a few years later, especially after i graduate. However, after talkin to si jia and huili, realised that God's plan for me would be in line with my passions and god doesn't throw his plans to me all in one shot. It's a step by step journey and i can start working towards it, or see myself working or growing towards it.
During the past yr, i realised that i ve a very strong passion towards teaching. Esp after i had my attachment in july this year. My passion is not just towards teaching, but towards the students. The kids :) I always call my students my kids. hahha... think its the relationship that attracts me alot. I just enjoy relating with them, understanding them and prying into their lives. ahhaha....
i have been giving tution ever since i was in sec 3 and over these years, i feel that the most rewarding thing of all is when i am able to help them. Not only in terms of their academic, but also in the struggles they face and problems. It is the most rewarding when i see breakthroughs in their lives, when they grow and mature. Every child is indeed different and it is truly a joy to be a part of their life, impacting them in small ways and seeing them grow.
About a yr ago, i started wondering if our church has a teachers ministry. Realised that they dun ve, wondered why and then dispersed the thought. Met up with si jia and she told me that there were a few ppl who were thinking abt it and said maybe i could start this ministry.
hahah... seems a bit far for me. Esp when i m still quite young in my walk with God and tt really seems far. But i m really excited abt a teachers ministry. Regardless of pioneering one, supporting or being in such a ministry, i think its really exciting :) It truly is and i feel that if there is such ministry it will really benefit the bro n sis who are serving God in the society as teachers.
Personally, i feel that teachers play a very impt role in the lives of students and the no of kids u can impart is really countless. Also, i feel that having a ministry purely for teachers would be good so that they can grow to support one another. Feel that unlike other jobs, not only do teachers ve to handle paper work and r/s with their peers, they also ve to grow to understand their students and learn to be effective in relating with them. Teachers ve an additional role and its definitely not easy. But its truly rewarding to those who ve passion in this area :)
Other than suporting one another thru this ministry, we can grow in our understanding and learn from one another because each of us may ve different strengths and weaknesses and by putting the teachers together, can really identify with each other, encouraging one another. The most exciting is what we can do thru this ministry to impact the kids even more. Like organising outreach programs for our kids or camps for them. Channels whereby they can come to know God more. I m not really sure abt the feasibility of such programs but recently i met a frien from another church. He came to know god in pri 3 and it was because a teacher brought him to a church camp. this frien of mine and a few others came to know god thru this and has been growing and serving in that church ever since then. Encouragin rite????!!!! Exiciting?? haha... when i 1st heard this i was like : i wanna do this too!!!!
A beautiful n visionary pic i ve painted rite? But think there are many other considerations too such as :
1) parents (these kids are young and parents may object)
2) if our kids do receive christ, what do we do with them? (how abt fu and cg and service?)
3) outreach can be easily carried out in christian schools. But how about other schools?
just wanna share with ya some experiences: during my july attachment, i went to a methodist school and i saw a teacher outreaching to his class. within 7 months of being with the class and sharing with them, he saw 5 converts and 3 visitors. Weekly they meet up for st like cg and bible studying and i joined them for 2 sessions. it was really really cool and so encouraged to see young kids desiring to know god more and growing in the lord.
4) how do we cope with the heavy workload of being a teacher, family life, friends, relationship with students and also reaching out to them and sharing to them.
As i was lying on my bed this morning, these were some of the thoughts that were going thru my mind. Was just thinking i still ve 2.5 yrs b4 i start my teaching career. If by then there is a teachers ministry den i ll join them :) if dun ve den i would really wish to start one with a few others who ve caught this desire. Indeed there are many teachers in our ministry but serving in different cg and other ministry. ahahh.. lets see how it goes manz.
But what can i do now? I m not really sure though. haha... think its time to talk to my shepherd. But one thing i can definitely do is grow in my r/s with god and also in my word of God :)
